THE PROCESS
CUTTING
Our raw materials are chosen for their quality
and consistency. The finest clay is formed into tablets from which we
cut the individual pieces; they are thicker than industrially produced
tiles, and more resistant to changes of temperatures etc.
FIRING
These intricate pieces are air dried in readiness
for the first firing to over 1000°C during which the clay is transformed
into a tough yet delicately shaped piece of terracotta varying in tone
from creamy beige to pink.
These natural tiles are very beautiful when juxtaposed
with our glazed tiles, and we can waterproof them or treat them with
tinted waxes for the purpose.
GLAZING
We make our own glazes from traditional primary
materials. The pieces are glazed by hand, giving them subtle tones that
differentiate the finished result from the uniformity of a factory made
product.
The second firing reveals the glowing, jewel-
like colours of the new pieces.
MOUNTING
We fulfil our clients’ requests laying out
the pieces chosen for elaborate designs and borders and overlaying an
adhesive film to hold them in place. These are numbered and presented
with a plan making it easy for the builder to place them in situ.
